Groundra

Groundra is a platform that helps institutions — universities, municipalities, corporate campuses, school districts — and the communities they serve get lasting value from investments in green infrastructure (street trees, bioretention planters, green roofs, urban forests). These systems reduce heat island effect, manage stormwater, and support biodiversity, but they frequently fail before plants reach maturity — often because the maintenance funding never matches what the landscape actually needs to survive, and the maintenance knowledge needed to sustain them is inappropriate, undocumented or lost over time.

Groundra starts by providing institutions a long-term financial projections to perform the appropriate maintenance — so the right funding is secured from day one, before a landscape has the chance to fail. From there, we work with ground crews, community members, and academic partners to build a shared, continuously updated knowledge base of what it actually takes to keep these landscapes alive, turning that experience into practical, site-specific maintenance guidance over time. AI tools help make this knowledge easier to access and apply, while the underlying data and calculations stay transparent and verifiable.

By securing the right funding upfront and growing smarter about maintenance over time, Groundra makes sure green infrastructure delivers the environmental and financial value it was built to provide.

HUMANBULB

We are a nonprofit organization focused on innovation entrepreneurship and workforce development. We run innovation entrepreneurship workshops, incubator and accelerator programs, and startup pitch competitions. We also run workforce development programs for the innovation economy.

San Francisco Estuary Institute

San Francisco Estuary Institute (SFEI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which has a 25-year track record of providing robust and innovative science to decision-makers, policy-makers, practitioners, and community members to measurably improve the health and resiliency of Bay-Delta ecosystems. As a boundary organization, SFEI operates at the interface between science and policy, recognized nationally for our ability to build consensus to support effective environmental decision-making and policy. Our mission is to deliver visionary science that empowers people to revitalize nature in our communities.
